Here are a few examples of the NCSS Guidelines and Principles for Student Government:

1)      Students participating in student government should be representative of the student body.

2)      Students participating in student government should be advocates for the ideals and interests of students first and foremost.

3)      Students participating in student government should work for the common good of the school community.

4)      Students participating in student government should learn how to communicate the problems, concerns, goals, and successes of their governing body to others.

We are proud to announce that we are now members of the National Association of Student Councils (NASC). The National Association of Student Councils supports the National Council for Social Studies (NCSS) guidelines for student government and provides student training, resources and professional development to assist schools in maintaining effective student councils. Furthermore, the goal of the National Association of Student Councils is to offer student leaders the chance to grow as moral leaders and model the principals, actions and beliefs of their school and of the NASC and NCSS in all that they do.
