FIRST GRADE SUMMER READING PROJECT
To help your child maintain
the reading skills they learned in Kindergarten, they should be read to every
day. This can be a book they read on
their own or one you read to them. A
minimum of 20 minutes a day should be spent reading.
For the
summer reading project, you child will complete three specific responses to the
books from the reading list.
PROJECT 1 – MAKE A BOOK COVER
Read a book from the first
grade list. For this project, choose a
book that contained a message or lesson.
Follow the directions given for Project 1.
PROJECT 2 – PAPER BAG PUPPET
Read a book from the first
grade list. For this project, choose a
book that has a strong or likeable character.
Follow the directions given for Project 14.
PROJECT 3 – STORY QUESTIONS
Read a non-fiction book from one of the authors on the list. For this project, students will write a
question they had about the subject on an index card and write the answer on
the other side. Follow the directions
given for Project 23.
The list of recommended books
is a great starting point. Most of these
authors have written many books, so if your child enjoys one on the list, take
a trip to the library and find another story by the same author. Summer reading should be fun and enjoyable.
Have a fantastic summer and
we will see you in August.
