Registration

Curriculum Fee of $418 is due by March 3, 2008.

Parish Mission:  OLSS will host a Parish Mission beginning Sunday, February 17, through Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at 7:00 pm in the church.  A special Children’s Liturgy will also be offered each evening for grades PreK-4 through 5th grade.  Free babysitting will be provided for children 4-years old and younger.  The school will be celebrating Mass on Tuesday, February 19th at 8:30 am instead of Friday, February 22nd.  So mark your calendars now and plan to bring the entire family!  What a lovely way to start our New Year by renewing our faith.  More details will be announced soon.

Parents:

Ø  We encourage all parents to join us at Mass tomorrow as we end our Catholic Schools Week with our children’s mass.

Ø  Reminder:  The handbook states on page 22 that jewelry is limited to one religious necklace, earrings for girls are limited to studs/posts or ½” or smaller hoops only!  No bracelets.  One watch, no alarm or buzzer.  Also, for all students, FOOTIES are not allowed and makeup is not permitted except for clear lip gloss.

Ø  Any and all correspondence sent via the class envelopes/backpacks must be school related and approved by Mrs. Earp.  Any letters or packages that contain personal information needs to be handled outside of school.

Ø  If your middle school student needs to contact you, they will be given a message from the front office that will be posted on the middle school message board.  It is then their responsibility to check the board and come to the front office to make their phone call.  Students are no longer allowed to use the phones in the classrooms or lunchrooms.

Ø  Please make note that the school’s phone number is 543-8515, not 285-8515.  We have a neighbor with a phone number very close to ours and they receive phone calls for the school on a regular basis.  Please be aware of this so that we are careful not to disturb our neighbors.  Thank you.

Ø  Just a reminder:  please respect the rights and property of each and every one of our surrounding communities.  We are receiving complaints from our neighbors that our parents are turning around in their subdivisions.   During peak hours of drop-0ff and pick up times, do not make u-turns in the surrounding neighborhoods.  Thank you.

Book of the Month:  The book of the month for February is Somebody Loves You, Mr. Hatch by Eileen Spinelli.  The theme of this book is love and kindness.  This book gives us a clear idea of what kindness can do for a person and how it can change his/her life.  It is the perfect book to follow last month’s theme.  What a great lesson to our students that if we all try and reach out to everybody (even those that we are not sure about!) we may just help someone realize their worth!

8TH Grade Parents:  The Confirmation Retreat will be on Saturday, March 15th.  The date in the packets given out at the meeting on January 10th was incorrect.  Please note on your calendar.  Also, your child’s baby photos for the yearbook are available in the front office for pick up.

Palmer Yearbooks on Sale Now!  Order forms for the 2007-2008 Palmer Blue Angels Yearbook went home in backpacks last week to all students.  The hardcover, full-color yearbooks are $32 if ordered by Monday, February 11th.  Please complete your envelopes and send them in to the office with your check payable to PCA.  After February 11th, yearbooks will be $40, but only available while supplies last.  Don’t miss out on this year’s memories!

HSA:

Ø  Reminder; The Palmer Catholic 5K race will be on Saturday, February 2, 2008, at 8:00 am at Mickler’s Landing.

Ø  MORE SERVICE HOURS!! If you’re interested in volunteering on the day of the Palmer Catholic 5K race, February 2, please contact Leila Jackson at 273-1114 or leilagbj@comcast.net.  Volunteers are needed for several different activities!  You can help for one hour or several hours.  Volunteers must be fingerprinted and cleared.

Ø  We are in need of one 10’ A-frame ladder to borrow on the day of the race.  If you don’t mind loaning this out, please contact Joe Hoff at joe.hoff@fnis.com or 463-5070.

Ø  Golf Tournament:  The Palmer Golf and Tennis Classic will be held on Monday, March 31, 2008, at the Jacksonville Golf and Country Club.  Our goal this year is to have a field of 144 golfers.  So get your foursomes together and spread the word to your friends.  This is a wonderful event with great prizes, food and fellowship.  Need service hours?  We need you!  Call Maureen Diederich @ 280-9317 to sign up and have some fun.

Music News:  As a reminder, the Spring music program will be Thursday, March 13th at 7:00 pm in the Cultural Center.  This program will be for students in grades 3-5.  Attendance for students in these grades is mandatory.  Please mark your calendars; it will be a night you will not want to miss!  Students in grades K-2 will perform on May 15th.

8th Grade Parents:  There will be a meeting of the 8th Grade Graduation Committee on Monday, February 4, 2008 at 2:00 pm in the upstairs lunchroom.  Anyone interested in working on graduation events is welcome.  Contact Anne Carlson with questions @ 285-1501.

Fish Fry:  Reel ‘em in! ….It’ll be a great catch too!  The first annual Men’s Club Friday Night Fish Fry will be on Friday, February 8, 2008, in the OLSS Cultural Center from 5:00 to 7:30 pm.  Fish, baked and fried, with all the “fixins” will be served.  All parishioners and their families are most welcome.  Families - $25, Couples - $15, Adults - $10, Children - $5 and children under 6 – free!  We’ll have some entertainment for children, too.  Come one, come all!!! Help us begin a new parish tradition.

“Vision of Hope”:  St. Gerard’s “Vision of Hope”, The Field of Crosses will be February 9th at 9:00 am.  For the past 20 years, on the first Saturday of Lent, children install crosses on the grounds of Prince of Peace in St. Augustine in recognition of all children’s right to life.  This year, Dr. Alveda Kind, niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, is the guest speaker.  This is a great family event.  For more information, call 829-5516.

Bishop Kenny News:   Bishop Kenny wishes all the Palmer Blue Angels a happy Catholic Schools Week.

St. Joseph Academy:    The make-up Explore Test is offered Saturday, February 9th at St. Joseph Academy in the cafeteria.  It begins at 8:00 am and ends at 11:00 am.  Students must bring the $25 test fee and a calculator.

Registration packets are due back by January 31, 2008, for Catholic school students.  Packets turned in by January 31st will be given preference and can save $100 on the application fee.  Registration opens to all applicants on February 1, 2008.
