Unified in Faith, Respect and Service

Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and shield.

Let Thy steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in Thee.

~Psalms 33:  20-22~

Curriculum Fee of $418 per student is due by March 3, 2008.

REMINDER:  THERE WILL NOT BE A CHILDREN’S MASS TOMORROW, FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 22ND.

Parents:

Ø  We have noticed an increasing number of parents using cell phones when picking children up at carpool.  This is extremely dangerous.  Please tell any authorized person that will be picking up your child, to please adhere to the carpool rules and turn off all cell phones while in carpool.

Ø  Supporting parishioners are defined as those families that are registered Catholic parishioners of Our Lady Star of the Sea parish.  Please be aware that contributions to the parish must be through the use of offertory envelopes, with your family name, made to the first collection of the Mass.

Ø  Absences:  The parent/guardian should call the school with the reason for the absence before 8:20 am.  If the teacher reports a child absent, and the office has not received a call notifying the school of the absence, the office staff will call the parent/guardians to verify the absence.  (page 9 in the parent/student handbook)

Ø  If your middle school student needs to contact you, they will be given a message from the front office that will be posted on the middle school message board.  It is then their responsibility to check the board and come to the front office to make their phone call.  Students are no longer allowed to use the phones in the classrooms or lunchrooms.

Don’t Forget to Purchase Your Yearbooks!  The 2007-2008 Palmer Yearbooks have been ordered.  If you did not pre-order your yearbooks, there are still some available for $40.00.  Please send your order forms in with your payment to the office.  More order envelopes are available in the office.  Yearbooks will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.  8th Graders will be given priority.

Book of the Month:  The book of the month for February is Somebody Loves You, Mr. Hatch by Eileen Spinelli.  The theme of this book is love and kindness.  This book gives us a clear idea of what kindness can do for a person and how it can change his/her life.  It is the perfect book to follow last month’s theme.  What a great lesson to our students that if we all try and reach out to everybody (even those that we are not sure about!) we may just help someone realize their worth!

Thank you!  Thank you to the HSA for the amazing luncheon they provided for the staff yesterday.  It was thoroughly enjoyed by all!

Italian Dinner Night:  Hold the date!  This year’s Italian Dinner night will be held April 15th in the Cultural Center.  Our first planning meeting will be tomorrow, Friday, February 22nd at 9:00 am in the Browning Center.  Please come and help us plan this wonderful school and parish fellowship event!  It is guaranteed to be a fun family night!

HSA:

Ø  Golf Tournament:  The Palmer Golf and Tennis Classic scheduled for Monday, March 31st is quickly approaching so get your foursome together and sign up fast!  We are in need of restaurant gift certificates, certificates for rounds of golf or items to be used for our silent auction.  We also need items for goodie bags – golf balls, towels, caps, sunscreen, etc.  Beverage cart, dinner or hole sponsorships are also available.  Our next meeting will be Thursday, February 28th at 1:00 in the Cultural Center.  If you can help, please call Shannon Palmer @ 373-0540.

Ø  2008/2009 HSA Board:  Kathy Massoglia, Maureen Diederich and Robin Devenny have agreed to serve on this year’s nominating committee.  A form will be sent home through the backpacks that you can fill out if you are interested in serving on the board.

Need more service hours???  There are lunch and recess duties available in April and May.  To avoid a charge for not meeting your service hours, please call the office to schedule your choice of days.  You will receive 2 hours for Lunch Duty and 2 hours for Recess Duty.

JDRF Walk To Cure Diabetes:  The JDRF Walk To Cure Diabetes will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2008, at Metropolitan Park starting at 10:00 am.  For more information, visit http://walk.jdrf.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=walk.walk&eventID=3842&chapterid=4135 or stop by the front office and pick up a brochure.  To join the Palmer team, go to this link and register – http://walk.jdrf.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=walk.walkeradd&chapterid=4135&eventID=3842&teamid=T1567614.

Ø  A reminder for all 7th graders at Palmer Academy that the annual Bishop Kenny 7th Grade Dance is this Friday.  It will take place in the BK cafeteria and will start at 7:00 pm.  If for some reason you haven’t received an invitation or have lost it, don’t worry; we will have the Palmer Academy class roster at the door for check in.  The dance will last until 9:30 pm with music, refreshments and prizes throughout the night.  We look forward to seeing you there.
