      Angel “Masked” Ball

SAVE THE DATE! Saturday,October 25, 2008–Angel Masked Ball

The date has been set and the FUN has begun. The Angel Ball is Palmer’s #1 FUNdraiser and all our families need to join in the FUN. Along with selling your raffle tickets (to be sent out this summer so you can get a jump start on your sales), you must either procure an item for the Auction or sign up to work on one of the committees.   We all look forward to the fellowship and FUN!!

¨  Now accepting gently used or new furniture/items for our children’s art projects.  We will be collecting them all through the summer for our children’s classes to decorate in the Fall.   We have already started procuring items … many thanks to those already involved!

¨

The next planning meeting will be Thursday, May 15, 2008, at 8:30am in the Downstairs Cafe.

C-Project:  Beatitude:  “Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God.”

Book of the Month:  The book of the month for May is The Raft by Jim LaMarche.  What a terrific theme to send the students off to their summer adventures.  A wonderful time can be found in the simplest things.  You don’t need to spend $100.00 for a ticket to Universal theme park and a fast pass for fun.  A rafting trip down a river, a sleep out under the stars can be more fulfilling.  Today’s society looks for instant gratification but when it is done, the feeling of contentment never stays long, so the search continues.  Nature offers us a never-ending show that is constantly changing.  This book emphasizes last month’s theme, take care of what we have, it is worth it.

Xtreme Readers:  The final Xtreme Reader party of the year will be May 15th after school.  The Library Ladies will be serving up Ice Cream Sundaes!  Parents, if your 3rd, 4th or 5th grade student is reading toward this OPTIONAL goal, please remind them to pass three quizzes before May 14th.  For more information, go to Palmer’s website, click on the Media Center link, and click on the Xtreme Reading link.

Save the Date:  Father – Daughter Dinner & Dance presented by the OLSS Men’s Club, Saturday, May 24th at 7:00 pm.  For more information, please call Dan Devenny at 992-1168.

Music News:  The K-2 program, Play Me a Story, is next week Thursday, May 15th, in the Cultural Center.  Students will need to be at the Cultural Center by 6:15 pm so that they are ready to begin the program at 6:30 pm.  Students in KA, 1A, 1B, 2A and 2B should wear their Sunday best; no jeans and no shorts please.  Boys should wear a nice pair of dress pants with a nice shirt.  Girls should wear a nice dress, skirt or pant suit.  Students in KB ONLY will wear a nice pair of pajamas to tell their bedtime story.  All of the classes are really working hard to put on a great show!  We are all looking forward to sharing our stories with everyone.

Volunteers needed for Field Day:  The Palmer 2008 Olympics will be held on Thursday, May 22nd for the entire school.  Grades Kindergarten through 4th Grade will have their activities from 8:45-10:30 am and 5th through 7th Grades will have their field day activities from 1:30-3:00 pm.  All classes will have a barbeque lunch outside during their regular lunch times.  We are currently seeking parent volunteers to help out with this fun day – it is a great service hour opportunity!!  We are also in need of large outdoor tents to borrow for the event.  This event will also serve as the year-end party for each class.  If you are interested in helping in any way, please contact Mrs. Haley or Coach C.

Attention all Palmer dads:  There will be a workday at Palmer on Saturday, May 17th from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.  Please contact Ed Birk at 373-6876 if you are available to help.

Thank you!  Thank you to Michele Cameron who has graciously been volunteering her time to run Box Tops for Education at Palmer.  Your time and dedication is greatly appreciated by all.

Bishop Kenny News:  The Bishop Kenny baseball team will play in the regional finals this Friday at 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm.  The Crusaders will host West Florida in a best of three match ups to determine who moves on to the state tournament.  If necessary the team will play this Saturday at 1:00 pm.  All games are played on the BK baseball field, so come out and cheer on the Crusaders.
