Thank You!  The Palmer Catholic Academy extends a huge thank you to Jim Dalton from The Dalton Agency for the design of the brochures and packet folders that were given to Palmer.   Also, thank you to Mike Seethaler of Rain Tree Graphics for printing the brochures and packet folders for Palmer.  A lot of hard work and dedication went into the making of these brochures and folders and they are amazing!!  Thank you!

Drop off and Dismissal:  We ask all drivers to follow our guidelines that will help maintain the safe and smooth arrival and dismissal of every student.  Here are a few reminders.

  • NO CELL PHONE USE permitted in the carpool line.
  • Parents are to remain in their cars and proceed through the carpool line.
  • Cars must be put in ‘park’.
  • Parents, please do not park your car and walk up to pick up your child.  You MUST remain in the carpool line to pick up your child.  This causes a very dangerous situation for our staff and our students.

Parents:  If you have a middle school student that you need to pick up before their regular dismissal time of 3:00, you must come into the front office and sign your child out.  Students will not be dismissed early without a parent signature.

Sports Physicals:  Students that wish to try out for any sport or sport club MUST HAVE a current Catholic Grade School Sports Conference Student Athletic Participation Application on file with the front office. These forms must be updated every school year.  Forms are available in the front office and we do have a notary on staff.  Also, if you are planning to drive students to any school related activity, you must be cleared by the diocese.  Volunteer Driver Information Sheets are available in the front office.

Challenge Girls Club:   The Challenge Girls Club will meet tonight, Thursday, September 6th in the Browning Center from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm.

Prayer Service:  Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church is having a prayer service “in celebration of children” on Tuesday, September 11, from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm.  Come join Father McCullough for healing, prayer, witness talks, candle lighting, music and more.

Drama Club:  Drama club meetings have been changed from Thursday afternoons to Tuesdays from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm.  Please make note of this change.

Lunches:  Parents, please do not pack a red, blue or any colored drinks with your child’s lunches.  These drinks, if spilled, stain our carpets and are very hard to remove.

HSA:

Ř  Box Tops and Soup UPC’s:  This year we are again collecting Box Tops for Education and Campbell’s Soup UPC’s.  Please clip your Box Tops labels from all participating brands and UPC’s from Campbell’s soup to help support Palmer.  There is a box in the back of church for collection.  We appreciate your support of our school.  Any questions, please call Michele Cameron @ 821-4644.

Ř  Mark your calendars for the Adventure Landing Waterpark outing on Saturday, September 22nd, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  Flyers are going home today.

Palmer Butterfly Garden Carwash Fundraiser:  Help support our soon-to-be-built Palmer Butterfly Garden, and get your car washed at the same time!  Our butterfly garden will be an outdoor classroom area, where students will learn about conservation and the environment.  It will be maintained by the Environmental Club. Palmer graduate, Andrew, has taken on building our Butterfly Garden as his Eagle Scout project.  His troop will host the fundraising carwash this Saturday, September 8th, from 9:00 am to 2:oo pm at the Walgreens on A1A (by McDonald’s).  All monies raised will go directly to the construction of our Butterfly Garden.

Bishop Kenny News:  Save the date!  The Palmer 8th grade class will be visiting the Bishop Kenny campus on September 25th.  The day will include lunch, a campus tour and special guest speakers.  Bishop Kenny is looking forward to hosting the Class of 2012.  Also, Bishop Kenny High School invites the students of Palmer Academy to be their guests at Grade School Night during the Bishop Kenny/Englewood football game on Friday, September 28th at 7:30 pm.  Members of Palmer band and cheerleading squad are invited to participate with the Crusader band and cheerleaders that evening.

St. Joseph Academy:  St. Joseph Academy welcomes back all returning and new Palmer students.   Please stay tuned for upcoming events in the Thursday updates.

Palmer is going green:  Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Respect is our motto for this year.  We will be moving to an electronic delivery of our general family mailings.  Please make sure the front office has your e-mail address so we can add you to our mailing list.

Going Green:  Reduce:  The most effective way to deal with garbage is to attack the problem at its source.  You can practice source reduction when you shop and help save the environment every time you make a purchase.  Here are some ways you can put source reduction into action.

Ř  Buy the largest size package whenever practical.  You get more product with less packaging than with smaller sizes.

Ř  Purchase products that use only enough packaging to ensure quality or safety – like those that make packages tamper-resistant – not those unnecessarily over-packaged with multiple layers of plastics, foil, paper and other wrappings.
