Unified in Faith, Respect and Service

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the lands!  Serve the Lord with gladness!

Come into his presence with singing!

~Psalms 100:1-2~

C-Project:  Beatitude: “Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God”.

Great Bible Reef:  Theme: Care for others.  “Care about others as much as you care about yourselves”. (Philippines 2:4)  Bible Story: Baby in the basket (Exodus 2:1-10)

Book of the Month:  The book of the month for September is The Flag We Love by Pam Munoz Ryan.  The theme of this book is patriotism and symbolism.

Parents:  If you are planning to be away and your children will be cared for by someone other than yourself, we must have you complete an Affidavit to Establish an In-Loco-Parents Relationship form.  These are located in the front office and they must be notarized.  It is imperative that we know who to contact in case of an emergency if you are unable to reach.

Drop off and Dismissal:  We ask all drivers to follow our guidelines that will help maintain the safe and smooth arrival and dismissal of every student.  Here are a few reminders.

  • NO CELL PHONE USE permitted in the carpool line.
  • Parents are to remain in their cars and proceed through the carpool line.
  • Cars must be put in ‘park’.
  • Parents, please do not park your car and walk up to pick up your child.  You MUST remain in the carpool line to pick up your child.  This causes a very dangerous situation for our staff and our students.

Carpool:  Parents, we are going to try something new!!  Our goal is to make your carpool experience as quick and safe as possible.  Starting Monday we are asking all visitors and parents who have to wait to pick up a student to park in the far left parking lot (the lot directly to your left after you turn into our parking lot).  Please do not park along the back side of the pond.  That will now be reserved for staff only.  We are trying to avoid having parents circle while waiting for your child.

Parents:  The music program that was scheduled for November 8th has been changed to December 13th.  Please make note of the change.

Challenge Girls Club:   The Challenge Girls Club will meet tonight, Thursday, September 20th in the Browning Center from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm.

Eucharistic Ministers:  Parents and teachers, if you are a Eucharistic minister and would like to serve at the children’s masses please contact Annie Solaun to be put on the schedule.  Annie’s e-mail is Solaunji@comcast.net and her cell number is 318-7213.

Directory:  The phone number for John and Karen Blackwell is incorrect in the directory.  The correct number is 826-4577.  Please make note of this.

Also, the room mom coordinator is Leslie Montoya not Melissa Montoya.  Please change this in your directories.

Attention “Green” Families:  The art classes are in need of laundry detergent lids!  Before you recycle the container, please take off the lid, rinse and send to school.  They are the perfect size for holding pencils, crayons, etc.  Thank you for your help!  Ms. Corrigan.

HSA:

Ø  Adventure Landing:  The waterpark will be open exclusively to Palmer families this Saturday, September 22nd, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  It should be a fun night!   TICKETS WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR.

Ø  Angel Ball:  This fun-packed event will be held at Sawgrass Country Club on Saturday, November 3rd.  We will have a planning meeting every Wednesday in the Cultural Center at 10:00 am until the event.  If you have a silent or live auction item you would like to donate, please contact Jennifer Watson at 280-1799.

Ø  5K Run/Walk:  Grades K-8, submit an 8 ½” x 11” drawing in navy or dark blue marker by tomorrow, September 21st to Mrs. Earp.  The winner’s drawing will be used for the logo on the t-shirts for the event.

Ø  Box Tops & UPC’s:  This year we are again collecting Box Tops for Education and Campbell’s Soup UPC’s.  Please clip your box top labels from all participating brands and UPC’s from Campbell’s Soup to help support Palmer.  You can send these in regularly through your child’s backpack.  Any questions, please call Michele Cameron @ 821-4644.

Ø  Please email Lorraine (sitton9@comcast.net) with photos, articles, items, etc. for the next Star Newsletter and for something you would like in the church bulletin.

Bishop Kenny News:  Bishop Kenny will be hosting a volleyball tournament this Saturday starting at 8:00 am.  The freshman and junior varsity Crusaders will be playing against Bishop Snyder, Middleburg, Stanton, Lincoln, Bolles, Episcopal and Nease.  It is sure to be a great day of competition and we hope to see you out there.

St. Joseph Academy:  St. Joseph Academy welcomes the Palmer Blue Angel Cheerleaders to perform with the St. Joseph Academy varsity Lady Flashes Cheerleading squad on September 21, 2007, at 7:30 pm at Versaggi Stadium located directly behind St. Joseph Academy.  All Palmer students are invited!

Dress Down Day:  Next Thursday, September 27th, the National Junior Honor Society is sponsoring a Dress Down Day to support DOSA Special Needs Camps.  Students are requested to bring at least a $1.00 donation and dress according to the Dress Down Dress Code published in the student handbook.

Middle School Reminder:  Middle School students are required to wear black or blue dress shoes.  Black athletic shoes are not permitted.

Palmer is going green:  Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Respect is our motto for this year.  We will be moving to an electronic delivery of our general family mailings.  Please make sure the front office has your e-mail address so we can add you to our mailing list.

Going Green:  Start making changes at home.  For example, in your laundry room you can:

Ø  Use cold water for your laundry.

Ø  Air dry whenever possible.

Ø  Only wash full loads.

Ø  Upgrade to Energy Star appliances.

Ø  Once or twice a year pour 2 cups of vinegar in your washing machine and run it a cycle.  It helps decalcify and clean the machine and softens clothes.

Ø  Clean the dryer vent each time you use it.

Ø  Switch to a soap-based detergent.

Ø  Try a hydrogen peroxide whitener instead of bleach.
