Thursday Update
Unified in
Faith, Respect and Service
Make me to know thy
ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths.
Lead me in thy truth, and teach me, for thou art the
God of my salvation; for thee I wait all the day long. ~Psalms 25: 4-5~ C-Project:
Beatitude: “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth”.
Great
Bible Reef:
Theme: Care
for others. “Care about others as much
as you care about yourselves”. (Philippines 2:4) Bible Story: Baby in the basket (Exodus
2:1-10)
Book
of the Month: The book of the month
for October is Pie in the Sky by Lois Ehlert. The theme of this book is Fall Harvest. The appreciation of life and God’s gifts.
Parents:
Ø If you are planning to be away and your children will be cared for by
someone other than yourself, we must have you complete an Affidavit to
Establish an In-Loco-Parentis Relationship form. These are located in the front office and
they must be notarized. It is imperative
that we know who to contact in case of an emergency if you are unable to be reached.
Ø We urge all parents not to obtain new shot records each year
unless your student is entering kindergarten, 7th grade or a new
student to Palmer. (HRS Form 680 – Blue
shot record)
Ø Please make sure that your child’s last name is on their contribution
envelope for Friday mass. They want the
students to get credit for their gift.
Ø Thank you to all Palmer parents who use their REDcard at Target. Target donates up to 1% of purchases made to
eligible K-12 schools designated by their guests. This helps raise more funds for our school by
spreading awareness about Take Charge of Education and encouraging members of
the community to designate your school on their REDcards.
Ø Please forward your payments for classroom collections to the front
office. Please include your child’s name
and class number and mark it “classroom collections”.
Ø Reminder: Middle School Open House is
Wednesday, October 3rd. 6th
grade students and parents should report at 5:45 pm with homeroom beginning at
6:00 pm. 7th and 8th
grade students and parents should report at 6:45 pm with homeroom beginning at
7:00 pm.
Middle
School Reminder: Middle School students are required to wear black or blue dress
shoes. Black athletic shoes are not
permitted.
Parents: The date for the K-2 musical
has been changed. They will perform sometime
in May and a date and time will be announced as soon as possible. The Choir Program will perform on December 13th. Please make note of this date.
Palmer
Butterfly Garden Carwash Fundraiser: Help support our soon-to-be-built Palmer Butterfly Garden, and get your
car washed at the same time! Our
butterfly garden will be an outdoor classroom area, where students will learn
about conservation and the environment.
It will be maintained by the Environmental Club. Palmer graduate, Andrew Pisacano, has taken
on building our Butterfly Garden as the Eagle Scout project. His troop will host the fundraising carwash
this Saturday, September 29th, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at the
Walgreens on A1A (by McDonald’s). All
monies raised will go directly to the construction of our Butterfly Garden.
Serve God and get service hours: Every year at this time we
proclaim that life is sacred and a gift from God. There will be an organized
and peaceful prayer meeting next Sunday, October 7th on 3rd Street
in Jacksonville Beach. This year it is
more important than ever before in view of the enlarged Planned Parenthood
clinic which recently reopened in our area.
Please meet us at the plaza in front of Jason’s Deli at around 1:45
pm. Prayer will be between 2 pm and 3
pm.
Challenge
Girls Club: The Challenge Girls Club will meet tonight,
Thursday, September 27th in the Browning Center from 6:30 pm to 8:00
pm.
HSA:
Ø Adventure Landing: Thank you, Annie
Solaun and Michele Cameron, for coordinating this social. Despite the rain, a good time was had by all.
Ø Angel Ball: This fun-packed event will be
held at Sawgrass Country Club on Saturday, November 3rd. We will have a planning meeting every
Wednesday in the Cultural Center at 10:00 am until the event. If you have a silent or live auction item you
would like to donate, please contact Jennifer Watson at 280-1799. Raffle tickets will be sent home through the
backpacks next week.
Ø Box Tops & UPC’s: This year we are again collecting
Box Tops for Education and Campbell’s Soup UPC’s. Please clip your box top labels from all
participating brands and UPC’s from Campbell’s Soup to help support
Palmer. You can send these in regularly
through your child’s backpack. Any
questions, please call Michele Cameron @ 821-4644.
Ø Please email Lorraine (sitton9@comcast.net) with photos, articles, items,
etc. for the next Star Newsletter and for something you would like in the
church bulletin.
Bishop
Kenny News: Bishop Kenny was
buzzing with activity on Wednesday as Palmer Academy’s 8th graders
made their annual trip to the BK campus.
From lunch to the student-guided tours to the guest speakers, a fun time
was had by all. We hope to see you all
next year as members of our new freshman class.
REMINDER: This Friday is Grade School Football
Night! Bring your tickets to be entered
in raffle drawings that will occur throughout the night. The Bishop Kenny Crusaders are taking on
Englewood High School for what is sure to be a great game. See you there, Friday night at 7:30!
St.
Joseph Academy: On Friday night,
September 21st, SJA Lady Flashes welcomed Coaches Jennifer Parliment
and Mindy McCoy and the Palmer Academy Angels.
SJA Flashes had candy packages for their visitors and the girls worked
together on several cheers which they performed flawlessly during
half-time. Flash, the SJA Mascot was in
attendance, and cheered with the girls!
St. Joseph Academy looks forward to welcoming the
Palmer 8th graders on Tuesday, October 2nd for their visit
to our campus. Former Palmer graduates will welcome the Palmer students personally
and eat lunch with them in the cafeteria!
Attention
“Green” Families: The art classes are in need of laundry detergent lids! Before you recycle the container, please take
off the lid, rinse and send to school.
They are the perfect size for holding pencils, crayons, etc. Thank you for your help! Ms. Corrigan.
Palmer
is going green: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
and Respect is our motto for this year.
We will be moving to an electronic delivery of our general family
mailings. Please make sure the front
office has your e-mail address so we can add you to our mailing list.
Going
Green: Start making changes at home. For example, in your Living room you can:
Ø Unplug chargers.
Ø Put electronics on a power strip and turn it off at night.
Ø Clean furniture with a quarter cup of vinegar and 10 drops of olive oil.
Ø Close the damper in the fireplace.
Ø When buying furniture, look for fabrics and woods that do not emit
Volatile Organic Compounds.
