Report Cards:  All tuition and fees (missed lunch or recess duty, library funds, Angels After Hours, ID badge request, etc.) must be current before report cards can be issued.

 

Children’s Mass:  Due to the Holy Day of Obligation, Palmer Catholic Academy students will attend mass on Thursday, November 1st.   Please drop your child/children off at church by 8:30 am.  Students must be in mandatory uniform.  There will not be a children’s mass on Friday, November 2nd.

 

Book of the Month:  The book of the month for October is Pie in the Sky by Lois Ehlert.  The theme of this book is the appreciation of life and God’s gifts.

 

Parents: 

Ø  Due to the warmer weather this month, our boys have been able to wear uniform shorts to mass.  Beginning October 26th, all of our boys must wear navy trousers to mass on Friday’s. (*Mandatory uniform days)

Ø  If your child has forgotten something at home and you drop it off for them, you must leave it on the OOPS Cart.  We try to keep classroom interruptions at a minimum.   

Ø  Order forms for the Original Artworks pictures will be accepted through tomorrow, Friday, October 19th.  Please remember to turn them in by tomorrow morning.

 

Picture Day:  Leonard’s will be here Tuesday, October 30th to take individual school photos.  8th grade students:  boys must wear a dress shirt and tie; girls must wear church appropriate attire.  Mandatory uniform is required of every other student!!

 

Book Fair Blizzard:  PCA’s annual Book Fair is on its way, and we need a storm of volunteers to make it a success.  In today’s Red Folder is a flier that lists specific times and ways to help…either at the fair or at home prior to the fair.  (Can you say “painless service hours”?)  This event is truly a celebration of reading.  We’re getting chills just thinking about it!  Please take a moment to look at the flier and let us know if you can help.

 

Palmer Catholic Academy Band:  On Friday, October 19th and Friday, October 26th at 3:00 pm, Mr. Urso will have a parent meeting for those students who are interested in joining the band.  Meet in the 2nd floor cafeteria to try out all the instruments and find out more about the program.

 

Red Ribbon Week:  October 22nd-26th Red Ribbon Week is a nationally celebrated week promoting a drug-free lifestyle.  Students and faculty are encouraged to participate in the events all week!  The event will showcase a Student Poster Contest (Grades 3-5) where students will be asked to create a poster showing, “Why Being 100% Drug Free is Important to Me!”  Winners of the poster contest will be displayed throughout the school and awarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes.  Contest begins on Monday and will end on Wednesday at 3:00 pm with the winners being announced on Friday, October 26th.  The events of the week will include:

·         Monday, October 22nd ---“Red Dress Down Day” (Wear appropriate red dress down clothes according to the Student Handbook dress down guidelines).

·         Tuesday, October 23rd ---“Team Up Against Drugs  (Wear your favorite team jersey over your uniform).

·         Wednesday, October 24th ---“Don’t Let Drugs Sneak Up on you Day  (Wear your favorite sneakers with your uniform).  Poster contest ends for grades 3-5 at 3:00 pm.

·         Thursday, October 25th ---“Hats Off to Being Drug Free  (Wear your craziest hats to school with your uniform).

·         Friday, October 26th ---“Hand in Hand, Together We Stand-Drug Free” ---Class banners and poster contest winners will be displayed throughout the school celebrating students standing 100% drug free.

 

 

 

 

 

HSA:

Ø  Town Hall Meeting:  Thursday, October 25th, 6:30 pm in the Cultural Center with Msgr. Logan and School Board Chair.  Look for flyer with more information this week.

Ø  Angel Ball:  Please continue to sell your raffle tickets.  As of this date, we still have 75% of our families that have not sold any.  We also encourage you to buy your tickets for the event on Saturday, November 3rd.  We have several fun surprises in store that evening!  If you have an item you’d like to donate, please contact Jen Watson at 280-1799.  Jaguars’ tickets, salon items, weekend getaways are needed!

Ø  Save the Date:  The 5K Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2008.  Please continue to seek sponsorships for this event.

Ø  Palmer Classic:  The Palmer Golf & Tennis Classic will be held at Jacksonville Golf & Country Club on Monday, March 31, 2008.  Start thinking about your foursomes!

 

Calling All Artists:  Have your artwork proudly displayed on the cover of the 2007-2008 yearbook!  Submit your original artwork showing this year’s theme, “Palmer Pride.”  All entries must be on an unlined, white 8 ½” x 11” paper.  Use black pen or Sharpie marker (no colors).  Your artwork must include the words “Blue Angel 2007-2008” and “Palmer Pride.”  Turn in your artwork to the front office by Wednesday, October 31st.

 

Altar Server Training:  Altar Server training for OLSS parish is now being scheduled for interested students 5th grade and up.  Fliers were sent home last week, and additional copies are available in the office.  Deadline to sign up is October 24th.  First class is October 28th.

 

Christmas Program:  Our annual Christmas presentation by the Palmer Choir, Orff and Drum Ensemble will be Thursday, December 13th at 7:00 pm in the Cultural Center.  Please come and hear our amazing students perform!

 

Dad’s Workday:  Palmer will have a dad’s workday on Saturday, November 17th from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. 

 

Calling all moms and dads!  Are you ready to experience personal spiritual and parish renewal?  If so, the CRHP (Christ Renews His Parish) weekend is for you!  The next women’s weekend is November 17th & 18th and men’s weekend is December 1st & 2nd.  For more information, please contact Theresa Richter at 285-2535.

 

Bishop Kenny News:  Bishop Kenny wishes the Palmer basketball team good luck as they take on Assumption tonight at the BK gym. 

Bishop Kenny tuition brochures and timeline magnets will be mailed this week to parents of 8th grade students.  

 

St. Joseph Academy:  We look forward to welcoming you to our campus for the St. Joseph Academy Annual Open House on Sunday, December 2, 2007, at 2:00 pm.  Bring the whole family and find out more about our outstanding program.  Hear from our President, Fr. Going Green:  Start making changes at home.  For example, in your bathroom you can:

Ø  Install low-flow devices on the sink faucet and showerhead.

Ø  Don’t let water run while brushing teeth or shaving.

Ø  Put food coloring in the toilet tank.  If it shows up in the bowl, you’ve got a leaky toilet.

Ø  Upgrade to a low-water toilet.

Ø  In the shower, turn off the water while you soap up.
