Registration:  Please keep in mind that in December, all currently enrolled families will be asked to register for the 2008-2009 school year.  Registration forms will be sent home the first week of December and the form and registration fee will be due back by December 14th to secure your students’ spots for next year.

Registration priority will be given in the following sequence.

1.       Current students of the school/siblings of current students/students of school employees.

2.      Preferential option for Our Lady Star of the Sea parish preschool, Little Stars Preschool.

(All siblings will be considered, but siblings coming from Little Stars will get first choice).

3.      Supporting parishioners of Our Lady Star of the Sea parish.

4.      Catholic families relocating to our parish from out-of-town continuing a Catholic education for their child(ren).

Book of the Month:  The book of the month for November is Knots on a Counting Rope by Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault.  The themes of this book are families, traditions, Native Americans and perseverance despite obstacles.

 

Parents:   The Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, is planning a visit to America in April.  Bishop Galeone will be attending the Papal ceremonies; therefore, 8th grade Confirmation has been rescheduled to Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at 7:00 pm.

 

Book Fair Countdown:  It is a less than a week until the Blizzard of Books hits our school.  Please mark your calendars to attend our Family Event on Wednesday, November 28th from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm.  This celebration of reading features books, games, events and photo opportunities.  You won’t want to miss it.  

 

Blue Angel Yearbook Update:  Celebrate your child’s special year at Palmer by purchasing an ad in the Blue Angel Yearbook.  Cost ranges from $50 to $100, depending on the ad size.  Contact the front office or Mrs. Pisacano for more information.  Deadline is December 1st.  There is limited ad space in the yearbook, so don’t delay! 

 

HSA:

Ø  Please see the flyer sent home regarding handmade ornaments.  Every child in the school made one.  If you did not purchase yours at the Angel Ball or at the Cultural Center last Friday, you still have two options.  Send in a check ($10 each) and we will send your ornaments home thru the backpack, or opt not to purchase and we will donate the ornaments to the school/church.  The deadline is December 3rd.

 

Family Turkey Trot:  The Winston Family YMCA is hosting its first annual Thanksgiving Day Family Turkey Trot on Thursday, November 22nd at 9:00 am.  The race starts at Micklers Landing Parking Lot N. on Ponte Vedra Blvd.  They will have children’s races and adult races.  Winners receive Thanksgiving turkeys or other Thanksgiving Day prizes.  For more information, contact Mike Shields @ 759-9400 or Jennifer Joy @ 543-9622.  Pre-registration will be at the Ponte Vedra YMCA or race day morning. 

 

Coffee cans:  Miss Parliment is collecting large coffee cans for a Catholic Schools Week project.  If you have any empty coffee cans please send them in to the front office.  Thank you.

 

Thank you!  Thank you to the Men’s Club who came out Saturday to help Mr. Larry with clean up around the school.  The grounds look wonderful!!  Larry is so grateful to everyone who gave up their time to help.

 

Bishop Kenny News:  Bishop Kenny wishes all Palmer Blue Angels and their family a Happy Thanksgiving.  We hope that you enjoy your time off with your family and have a safe and happy “Turkey Day”!

 

St. Joseph Academy:  Reminder; Open House will be on Sunday, December 2nd at 2:00 pm.  Open House marks the beginning of registration for 2008-2009.  For more information please call (904)824-0431 or email admissions@sjaweb.org.

 

Scrip News:  The Christmas season is here!  For most of us that means running all over town buying gifts for family and friends.  Make this season a little easier by purchasing Scrip gift cards.  The Scrip program will run through December 10th this year.  Order forms were sent home in the red folder and are available in the front office.

 

Soccer News:  Varsity soccer players will have practice today, November 20th from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm and JV soccer players will have a practice Monday, November 26th from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm, both at Cornerstone Field.  Our first home game will be Friday, November 30th against Annunciation at 4:00 at Cornerstone Field.  Please come out and support our Blue Angels!

 

Going Green:  Recycling creates new products: aluminum cans, newspapers, cereal boxes, paper towels, egg cartons, carpeting, motor oil, car bumpers, nails, trash bags, glass containers, comic books and laundry detergent bottles.  Who knows what great new purpose your humble recycling may take on its next life!
